What It Tastes Like

Looking spooky is nice, but the drink needs to taste good too, right? This drink is an unusual blend of bold, earthy flavors that are hard to pin down, and so you have to keep tasting it, and then you start to love it.

The gin provides its classic botanical notes to the mix. The addition of green Chartreuse, a herbal liqueur with a vibrant green hue, adds a layer of earthy, aromatic complexity, with hints of anise, mint, and other botanicals.

The lime juice brings a refreshing, tart edge to balance out the richness of the other ingredients, while the simple syrup adds a subtle sweetness. Club soda adds refreshing bubbles and a hint of bitter.

And the fresh basil leaves infuse the drink with a fragrant, herbaceous note that ties it all together.

Food Pairings

If you’re serving it with food, it will pair well with savory hors d’oeuvres, such as black olive tapenade, roasted beet hummus, or even a selection of aged cheeses and charcuterie.

You could also serve it alongside a platter of spooky-themed desserts, such as black velvet cupcakes, dark chocolate-dipped strawberries, or even a decadent black forest cake.

Serving With a Spooky Twist

There are a number of ways to present this drink in spooky ways. First of all, you can add a bit of dry ice to the cocktail, being sure to follow all the safety instructions for using dry ice. This creates a fun smoky effect, like the drink is bubbling and brewing like a witch’s cauldron.

You could also serve it in a mostly clear spooky Halloween goblet. And finally, you can put a black glittery sugar rim on the glass.
