I like to serve this one by plucking a maraschino cherry out of its jar, not cleaning the juice off it, and dropping it straight in. That adds just a tiny touch of cherry flavor to the whole thing, and then the cherry absorbs the alcohol and you eat it at the end.
Fill a shaker with ice and pour everything in. Shake well and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish by dropping a cherry straight down in.
