Spicy Martini cocktail recipe
The Spicy Martini is just what it sounds like: gin, vermouth and hot sauce. It’s very spicy, but the bold pepper complements the herbal gin and vermouth.
And this drink packs three-and-a-half ounces of hard liquor. So while the hot sauce may at first make steam come out of your ears, you won’t be feeling a thing in another minute or two.

So preparation is basically to shake everything up with ice thoroughly and then strain it into a chilled glass. That gives it the nice golden hue and a seamless taste from the first sip to the last.
Food Pairings
This cocktail’s bold and assertive flavors make it work well with grilled meats and seafood, especially with a sweet component like teriyaki grilled chicken or salmon with mango salsa. The sweetness and smokiness contrasts beautifully with the spice of the cocktail.
It can also work nicely with a simple cheese board. And creamy dishes are another great option – try lobster bisque or a Thai curry.
Any dish featuring garlic will also work with this cocktail! Try it with aglio e olio!
Customizing the Spicy Martini
This is definitely not a drink for people who don’t like spice. It’s going to burn your throat and start a fire in your belly, and you are definitely going to taste the pepper. But you can definitely customize this drink to suit your personal taste preferences.
Reduce the Hot Sauce
If 15 drops of Tabasco feel too overpowering, you can start with a smaller amount and gradually increase it to find your perfect balance of heat and flavor.
Try Different Gins
Another way to adjust the spicy martini is by experimenting with different types of gin. While a classic London Dry style gin is a great starting point, you can also try using a more botanical-forward gin or even a gin that features a hint of citrus or other complementary flavors.
Try Different Vermouths
As I mentioned, you can stick with a traditional dry vermouth, but a sweet one can counteract the spiciness and also bring out flavors in the gin.
Increase the Vermouth
Adding a touch more vermouth can help to temper the heat and provide a smoother, more balanced sipping experience.
Add a Little Juice
A small amount of fresh citrus juice, like lemon or lime or even orange, can help to balance out the heat and add a refreshing element to the drink.
Rim the Glass with Salt
Salting the rim of the martini glass can also counteract the spiciness, and it adds a nice contrast to the overall flavor profile.
