The Ruby Runner is in the same class as the Zombie in terms of alcohol content – nearly 5 ounces – but unlike the Zombie, this one doesn’t have quite enough fruit juice to disguise the alcohol. Which means it doesn’t sneak up on you quite the same way.

Ruby Runner cocktail recipe

Yield: 1 drink

This is a cocktail for when you really need a drink, but you don't want the taste of strong alcohol. With rum and liqueurs providing the kick, it's gentler than plain hard liquors - but just as powerful.

Ingredients

• 3 ounces Malibu coconut rum
• 2 ounces orange juice
• 2 ounces pineapple juice
• 3/4 ounce blackberry brandy
• 3/4 ounce banana liqueur
• 1 splash grenadine syrup
• 1 splash Bacardi rum

Instructions

1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Pour in the rum, brandy, banana liqueur, blackberry brandy and fruit juices.
3. Shake well.
4. Strain the mixture into a highball glass.
5. Add splashes of grenadine and Bacardi.
6. Garnish with a cherry and an orange wheel.
