The Maple Leaf cocktail is so named because it’s made with a teaspoon of maple syrup. That sweetness is cut by lemon juice, so the end result is sweet and sour notes bringing out the mellow fruity notes from the bourbon.
Don’t waste top shelf bourbon in a cocktail. It does help to have a decent, drinkable bourbon, but it certainly doesn’t need to be anything special. Enjoy this cocktail whenever you’re thinking of bourbon with something a little extra special.
- 1 1/2 ounces bourbon
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
Fill a cocktail shaker with crushed ice and pour in the ingredients. Shake well to mix the syrup thoroughly. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass.
