The Loco Unicorn drink recipe tastes as good as it looks. Captain Morgan’s LocoNut coconut liqueur blends with other fruity ingredients to make a beautiful pink and blue rainbow.
Don’t be put off by the layering effect – it’s unusually easy in this one because the drink has ice and the liqueurs are so easy to float. Also, don’t be put off by the prospect of rimming the glass. I have a layering tutorial and a glass rimming tutorial for you.
The flavors here are… well, we’ve talked about LocoNut before, and how it tastes like fresh coconut with hints of spice, and is a step above the usual coconut liqueur. To that, this drink adds some berry-flavored grenadine and some orange-flavored blue curacao. The result is a coconut-orange-berry party in your mouth. And you have two options for drinking it: just sip from the bottom, so it gradually moves from the berry flavor to the orange, or stir it and enjoy all the flavors at once. Either way is delicious.
And if you want to make this drink special, it’s worth springing for a bottle of hand-crafted grenadine, like Liber & Co., that’s made the old-fashioned way instead of with corn syrup. The taste is fresher and lighter.
But to make it a long drink, this recipe include six ounces of coconut water, which is delicious and has some health benefits, although not nearly as many as you’ve probably heard from the hype. Mainly it’s a good source of potassium, which is something most of us need.
- 6 ounces Coconut Water
- 2 ounces Captain Morgan LocoNut
- 1/4 ounce grenadine
- 1/4 ounce Genuine Curacao Liqueur
Dip a 13 ounce highball glass in water and then edible glitter to form a rim (here’s a how-to on rimming glasses). Fill the glass with ice. Add the coconut water and Captain Morgan LocoNut. Stir these until they’re blended. Drizzle the Grenadine in slowly so it falls to the bottom and sits. Now slowly drizzle the Curacao in, so it sits on the top.
