Jade Cocktail Recipe (Two Variations)
There are several very different drink recipes that go by the name “Jade cocktail”. For maximum enjoyment, you will need at least two of them in your life, naturally. I picked the two most different from each other.
It seems you can put pretty much anything green together and call it a Jade. But I think the first recipe is best.

The first one reminds me a little bit of a Mojito, because it features rum, creme de menthe and lime. Then it also adds some Cointreau orange liqueur, and that changes the flavor profile.
The drink becomes citrus with hints of mint and caramel. It’s refreshing and tasty – neither too sweet nor too tart.

The second version gets its green color from Midori and blue curacao. To that it adds lime and bitters, for tartness and spice… and then you add champagne, which surprised me.
It seemed like the flavor of champagne might get lost in the strong taste of the fruity liqueurs and the lime juice. But the end result tastes sweet and tart, with lots of fruity notes and a hint of spice from the bitters. And the bubbles add a refreshing touch.

When to Serve Jade Cocktails
Both versions work well as refreshing cocktails for warm weather or parties. The first one’s minty-citrus profile makes it great for casual get-togethers or as an aperitif before dinner.
The second one’s bubbly, fruity nature makes it perfect for celebrations like birthdays, holidays, or brunch gatherings.
Other Variations of the Jade Cocktail
If you like the idea of the Jade cocktail but want to mix things up a bit, there are several ways to change the ingredients while keeping the green color and refreshing vibe.
-
Jade with Gin: Swap the white rum in the first recipe for gin. Gin’s botanical notes add a different kind of herbal flavor that works well with lime and creme de menthe. This version feels a bit lighter and more floral.
-
Herbal Jade: Add fresh herbs like basil or cilantro in the shaker along with the ice for the first recipe. These herbs add extra freshness and complexity without overpowering the mint and citrus.
-
Frozen Jade: Blend the first recipe with ice for a slushy, frozen drink. It’s perfect for hot days and keeps all the flavors but in a cool, refreshing form.
-
Jade Sparkler without Champagne: For the second recipe, if you don’t have champagne or want a non-alcoholic option, try sparkling water or lemon-lime soda. It keeps the bubbles and lightness but lowers alcohol content.
Pairing Jade Cocktails with Food
Both versions of the Jade cocktail have distinct flavors that can pair nicely with different foods.
-
With the Rum-Based Jade: The mint and citrus notes go well with light dishes like grilled chicken, seafood, or fresh salads. Think ceviche, shrimp tacos, or even a simple goat cheese salad.
-
With the Champagne-Based Jade: Since it’s fruity and bubbly, this one pairs well with appetizers like smoked salmon, bruschetta, or mild cheeses like brie or camembert. It’s also nice with fruit-based desserts or light pastries.
If you’re hosting a party, consider serving small bites that complement your chosen version of Jade to create a balanced tasting experience.
